Thai and foreign couples have their marriage registered in "Bang Rak"

BANGKOK, Feb 14 (TNA) - On the occasion of Saint Valentine’s Day on Monday (Feb 14), several Thai and foreign couples have their marriage registered at the Bang Rak district office in Bangkok as previous years, as lovers believe the name of Bang Rak, meaning in Thai as the district of love, is auspicious for their marriage.

A number of Thai and foreign couples have arrived at the Bang Rak district office since early Monday morning, as district officials have prepared 13 gold marriage certificates and a condominium worth over 500,000 baht as prizes for lucky couples.

Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra presided over a lot drawing ceremony for the lucky couples at the Bang Rak district office, where special activities also includes a traditional Thai wedding ceremony for nine couples selected from their interesting love stories with their processions of "Khan Mak", or trays of gifts, for the brides and a ceremony of pouring blessed water and dressed in traditional Thai wedding clothes.

Bang Rak district chief Surakiat Limcharoen said his office registered only marriage and not divorce on Monday. The Bang Rak district office registered marriage for 1,652 couples on February 14 last year. According to the district chief, the figure should be lower this year because this Saint Valentine’s Day falls on a weekday. However, he said, the number of couples who have their marriage registered in Bang Rak this year should be at least 1,000. (TNA)
