AZERBAIJAN MILLI MAJLIS SPEAKER MEETS AJC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Baku, 16 AUGUST,(AzerTAj)Speaker of the Azerbaijan Milli Majlis (Parliament) Ogtay Asadov met Friday with visiting American Jewish Committee (AJC) Executive Director David A. Harris.
O. Asadov said the AJC enjoys great prestige in the United States. According to him, close relations between Diaspora organizations also have positive impact onrelations between the countries.
O. Asadov spoke of accomplishments achieved in Azerbaijan after the country regained its independence. He also touched upon high-level religious tolerance in the country saying Jewish Synagogues, Orthodox and Catholic churches operate in Azerbaijan without any interference. O. Asadov added Jews residing in Azerbaijan are activelyinvolved in the country`s public and political life.
The Speaker also briefed on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and its grave consequences. He expressed confidence the AJC would spread trueinformation about Azerbaijani in U.S. and the world.
David A. Harris, in his turn, said despite his first trip to Azerbaijan he knows much about the country. He praised Azerbaijan`s religious tolerance and dynamic economic development. David A. Harris also noted the AJC would spare no efforts to provide more information about Azerbaijani in U.S. According to him, the AJC is interested in cooperation not only with Azerbaijani Diaspora in US, but the countryitself.
He also expressed satisfaction with favorable conditions created for Jewishcommunity in Azerbaijan.
