Indian PM inspects work of Indian-Russian BrahMos enterprise

NEW DELHI, February 13 (Itar-Tass) - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh inspected this week the operation of the Russian-Indian BrahMos
Aerospace Ltd. enterprise.
The Indian head of government visited the factory, manufacturing
self-name supersonic missiles in southern India, Kerala State.
Spokesman of BrahMos Aerospace Ltd. reported that Singh "inspected
with interest the factory, familiarising himself with various stages of manufacturing BrahMos missiles. Indian Defence Minister Arakkaparambil Antony accompanied the cabinet head during his visit to the enterprise.
The Russian-Indian enterprise BrahMos Aerospace Ltd., called in honour of two rivers - Brahmaputra and Moskva - was established in 1998. The Defence Research and Development Organisation participates in the venture from the Indian side and from the Russian - NPO Engineering. BrahMos Aerospace Ltd. manufactures supersonic cruises, capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 300 kilometres and developing speed, topping the sound velocity by 2.5-2.8 times.
The Indian naval and land forces are already equipped with BrahMos
cruises, while the Indian Air Force ordered land-based supersonic cruise
missiles. The enterprise has already orders for further deliveries of
BrahMos cruises for the Indian armed forces up to 2018.
