U.S. lifts ban on air freight from Yemen

SANA (Saba) - The U.S. government announced on Saturday lifting the ban on air cargo from Yemen to the U.S., including Yemen
Airways Company.
The U.S. ambassador to Yemen Gerald Feierstein informed Minister of Transport Khalid al-Wazir during his meeting with him on this decision, which allows air freight from
Yemen to the U.S. according to regulations and specific conditions without any hindrances.
This decision comes in light of the results raised by the U.S.
technical team that has visited Yemen recently to see the security and safety measures followed in the Sana'a International Airport and ensure their conformity with international
standards and conditions of the international Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) , Feierstein made it clear.
He praised the procedures and steps taken in the Yemeni airports, confirming the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries in various areas.
During the meeting, al-Wazir and Feierstein discussed the possibility of enhancing cooperation areas regarding training and rehabilitation of staff of Sana'a International
Airport.
Al-Wazir considered this decision reflects the specificity and the distinct relations between the two friendly countries and enhances the two countries' efforts in combating
terrorism within international partnership in this aspect.
He stressed the importance of issuing a complete decision on lifting the ban.
The discovery of explosives in two parcels posted from Yemen and addressed to synagogues in Chicago in October 2010, led several countries including the U.S. to ban all
air freight originating from Yemen.
