TeleYemen invites bids for management, operating contract
SANA'A, Feb. 11 (Saba) - The Yemen International Telecommunications Company- TeleYemen has announced a tender for the selection of an international firm to manage and operate the company.
Ali Nosary Vice Chairman of TeleYemen, said that the company is looking for first class international telecom operators to manage and operate the company.
He added the company is currently managed by France Telecom whose term of services is about to expire.
The management and operation contract is being offered to international telecom firms with strong experience in the management of telecom firms in the Middle East region.
The selected company will be responsible for steering the company and for the development of plans for growth and expansion of business opportunities for the company.
"We are looking for a company that can provide leadership and innovations to lead the company into cutting edge technologies and expand the company's operations both in the local and international markets", Nosary said.
The contract will be offered for a five-year period where the successful bidder will be responsible for the management and operation of the company which is based in the Yemeni capital Sana'a.
The operator will need to leverage their international experience to benefit the company's future growth and diversification of its products offers both to local, regional and international markets.
TeleYemen is the sole licensed International Telecommunications Services provider in Yemen. It started as a subsidiary of Cable and Wireless in 1972.
When the contract between PTC and Cable and Wireless expired on December 2003, TeleYemen has become a state owned company with 75 per cent of the shares owned by PTC and 25 per cent of the shares is owned by Post Office.
TeleYemen has engaged in a management contract with France Telecom (FT) since 2004.
