Japan, Russia should draft peace treaty without artificial deadlines

MOSCOW, February 11 (Itar-Tass) - Japan, Russia should draft a peace treaty without any artificial deadlines and preconditions, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday.
"Any decisions for drafting a peace treaty with Japan are probable
only through agreements that the peoples of both countries will support," the minister pointed out.
"This requires a patient, meticulous and respectful work without any
artificial deadlines and preconditions and without unilateral historical
links," Lavrov said. "This decision can be taken only under the current
principles of international law," he pointed out. "This is our position.
Otherwise, all the negotiations will be just futile," the Russian minister added.
Lavrov reiterated that the negotiations would need persistent efforts without any haste. "We are ready for this. We hope that our Japanese colleagues are ready too," Lavrov underlined.
