Japan ready to consider economic cooperation with RF on Kuriles.

MOSCOW (Itar-Tass) - Japan can consider economic
cooperation with Russia on the Kurile Islands. "Japan is ready to consider
economic cooperation with Russia on the Kurile Islands without infringing
the Russian juridical position on the islands," Japanese Foreign Minister
Seiji Maehara said after the negotiations with his Russian counterpart
Sergei Lavrov here on Friday.
"The territorial problem remains unsettled in our relations. Our
positions are different on this problem. Under the reached agreements and
the principles of lawfulness and justice the countries should seek
mutually acceptable solutions," the Japanese foreign minister noted.
"We should negotiate this problem in the calm way. We confirmed this
today," Maehara said with confidence.
Maehara said that he would meet with Minister of Industry and Trade
Viktor Khristenko to discuss an opportunity to institute a round-table
format of negotiations. "Representatives of the business quarters will
participate in it. We intend to promote concrete economic projects in all
Russia," the Japanese minister underlined.
