Russia drops duties on shelf-caught fish.
MOSCOW (Itar-Tass) - Russia dropped customs duties on
fish caught on the Russian shelf in order to increase domestic supplies and trim prices.
Head of the Fisheries Committee Andrei Krainy said on Thursday Prime
Minister Vladimir Putin signed a resolution which will save millions of
rubles for domestic fishermen.
Earlier the fish caught on the Russian shelf was de-jure imported and
fishing companies paid 312 million rubles of customs duties in 2010.
"The resolution provides preconditions for increased fish supplies to
the domestic market as before it was profitable and cheaper to export it,"
Krainy said.
"We also hope it is an incentive for domestic fish processing," he
added.
