Russian first lady views Vologda lacework fair in Lausanne.

LAUSANNE (Itar-Tass) - Russian First Lady Svetlana
Medvedeva visited on Thursday the Vologda Lace Fairy Tale exhibition that
opened in Switzerland in the framework of Russian culture festival.
The city of Vologda is the most distinguished lacework center in
Russia and the exhibition features lace maps of the whole country and of
Vologda region.
Accompanied by Russian Culture Minister Alexander Avdeyev and Vologda
regional Governor Vyacheslav Pozgalev, as well as two former Swiss
Presidents Pascal Couchepin and Hans-Rudolf Merz, the first lady was
specifically excited by the lace image of Christ the Savior Cathedral in
Moscow.
Stopping to look at the work of a lacemaker Medvedeva noted the girl's
bracelet and breastpin. "Look, they are made in the traditional technique
of Vologda lace, but with the use of a metallic thread which makes them
resemble filigree," Medvedeva said.
"Flax can be also called white gold," she remarked.
