North Korea calls on South to cancel exercise with USA.

PYONGYANG (Itar-Tass) - North Korea called on South
Korea to cancel a joint military exercise with the United States and thus
"confirm adherence to a peaceful settlement on the Korean Peninsula."
The Rodong Sinmun official newspaper of the ruling Workers' Party
described the plans to hold the exercise as a "challenge to international
community that calls for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula."
It recalled on Friday that "dialogue and negotiations between the DPRK
and South Korea are every time blocked by joint US-South Korean maneuvers"
and doubted the "sincerity of Seoul's statements about the intention to
reconcile the North and the South."
South Korea and the United States plan to hold joint exercises in
February-March.
