Thai-Cambodian border situation improves, says regional commander

BANGKOK, Feb 10 (TNA) - Commanding General of Thailand's Second Army Area Command Lieutenant General Tawatchai Samutsakorn said Thursday (Feb 10) that the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border has gradually improved.
Lieutenant-General Tawatchai acknowledged if there was no fresh crossfire over the next couple of days, he would discuss with the governor of the northeastern Si Sa Ket Province on bringing Thai villagers residing near border areas back home--after they have been evacuated to temporary shelting centres for the sake of their safety.
Lieutenant General Tawatchai encouraged the public not to be worried over the Cambodia-Thai border situation, saying that Thai soldiers will do their best to protect national sovereignty.
The second army area commander also noted that recent deployment of weapons and troops along the border was simply part of Thailand's annual military exercise, and that Thailand has tried to improve bilateral relations with neighbouring Cambodia to secure peace for villagers residing along the common border.
