Situation at Mae Sot remains normal after deadly blasts in Myanmar

TAK, Feb 10 (TNA) - Border trade and exchanged visits of Thai and Myanmar people at Mae Sot District of Thailand's northwestern Tak Province connecting with Myanmar's Karen State was reportedly normal Thursday (Feb 10)--after two blasts Wednesday evening (Feb 9) in Myanmar's Myawaddy town near the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge killed three people and injured six others.

However, Thai patrol police forces have strictly inspected at piers along the Moei River to prevent smuggling of illegal objects or goods.

Two Thai soldiers were wounded last month after an artillery shell from a clash between Myanmar government soldiers and armed ethnic Karens exploded on landing on the Thai soil in Tak.

Some 1,000 Karen villagers in Myanmar temporarily crossed the border into Mae Sot last November--following fighting between ethnic karen groups and the Myanmar government forces in the wake of the general election in Myanmar on November 7. (TNA)
