Japan, S. Korea Agree on Regular Haneda-Gimpo Flights

Tokyo, Aug 15 (Jiji Press) - Japan and South Korea agreed in their civil aviation talks here Thursday to open regular flights between Tokyo's Haneda Airport and Seoul's Gimpo International Airport once the expansion of Haneda is completed.

The countries agreed to allow six flights a day each to their carriers after the expansion's completion, planned for 2010, the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry said.

This was the first time a detailed allocation was set for daytimeinternational slots that will be available at the expanded Haneda.

The Japanese government will continue to negotiate with other countries about the allocation of 60,000 expected new international slots atthe Tokyo airport.

Currently, eight charter flights a day are operated between Hanedaand Gimpo.

Of the planned regular flights, the two countries confirmed thattwo for each side can be switched to the Haneda-Pusan route.

Besides the daytime flights, they agreed to allow four flights aday on late night and early morning slots.

Japan and South Korea also agreed that there should be four flightsa day between Kansai International Airport near Osaka and Gimpo airport.
