Thai-Cambodian border clashes have limited impacts, says Thai minister

BANGKOK, Feb 10 (TNA) - Thai Industry Minister Chaiwuti Bannawat says that a spate of border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia--which erupted last Friday (Feb 4), has only limited impacts on Thai investment in the neighboring country.
Chaiwuti revealed Thursday (Feb 10) that Thai investors in Cambodia have confirmed their willingness to participate in a trade fair to be organised in the neighbouring country later this year.
The Thai industry minister noted that the clashes erupted along the common border, therefore, his ministry has carried on investment promotion policy to encourage Thai businesses to expand their investment in Cambodia, and that he believes the two neighbouring countries will finally find a peaceful solution through bilateral talks.
The Thai industry ministry said much of impacts from the border rows had been detected on border trade, particularly in Thailand's northeastern Si Sa Ket Province, where the military clashes broke out; while cross-border trade at other border checkpoints has remained normal.
Thailand is the seventh largest foreign investor in Cambodia with 81 projects registered with Cambodia’s investment promotion board since 1994, worth some 227 million US dollars. (TNA)
