Border rows not affect employment of 70,000 Cambodian workers in Thailand

BANGKOK, Feb 9 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Labour acknowledged Wednesday (Feb 9) that the ongoing border tension between Thailand and Cambodia has not affected the overall employment of some 70,000 Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand and even their nationality verification processes--although the employment of Cambodian daily workers in areas near the border has been suspended due to the closure of border passes.

Thai Labour Ministry Spokesman Sutham Nateetong said that Cambodian authorities have continued to send officials to carry on the verification processes for the 70,000 Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand, and the the processes for more than 50,000 of them have been completed.

The spokesman suggested that Thai employers and people take care of Cambodian workers and not to put pressure on them, as the Cambodian migrant labourers are not the cause of the ongoing border rows between the two neighbouring countries. (TNA)
