Russia, Hungary FMs to discuss economic cooperation in Moscow.

MOSCOW (Itar-Tass) - Foreign Ministers of Russia and
Hungary Sergei Lavrov and Janos Marnotnyi will meet here on Monday to
discuss the cooperation in the European Union with due account of Hungary'
s EU presidency in the first half of 2011 and bilateral trade and economic
cooperation.
"The ministers will discuss the promotion of the Russian initiative to
draft a European security treaty," spokesman for the Russian Foreign
Ministry Alexander Lukashevich said. He also noted that Budapest supports
the Russian initiative to intensify the work on a basic agreement with the
EU for the transfer to visa-free short trips. "The positions of the
countries are close or identical on such important modern problems as the
struggle against modern challenges and threats, international terrorism,
the proliferation of mass destruction weapons, organized crime and the
problems of ethnic minorities," the Russian diplomat pointed out.
The ministers will focus on the prospects of vigorously developing
Russian-Hungarian relations. "Despite the financial crisis the bilateral
trade went up 31% to reach eight billion dollars in 2010," Lukashevich
remarked. "The agreements in energy cooperation are being implemented
consistently and the South Stream gas project is at the advanced
development stage," he recalled. "Continuous supplies of Russian energy
carriers are being made to Hungary," he noted.
The diplomat called the nuclear and transport industries as the most
promising spheres of bilateral investment cooperation.
"Hungarian business is promoting actively such Russian national
projects as the health care system, affordable and comfortable housing and
the development of the agrarian and industrial sector," Lukashevich
remarked.
"The relations between Hungary and Russian regions are well developed,
particularly with those constituents, where Finno-Ugric peoples live and
have common ethnic linguistic roots with the Hungarians," he noted.
The foreign ministers are planning to discuss humanitarian
cooperation. "A Russian-Hungarian public dialogue forum is to pass a very
important stage of launching, and we believe that the forum should promote
the development of cultural and public and scientific ties," the Russian
diplomat underlined.
