TURKEY-ARAB WORLD: Turkey director with London-based think-tank says the country is an inspiration for reformist Arabs
LONDON/ANKARA (A.A) - An analyst with the influential London-based think-tank, Chatham House, has said Turkey constituted a role model for reform-minded groups in Arab countries.
"Turkey is no doubt becoming a clear inspiration for Arab countries in the context of accelerating turmoil and change. Its combination of a vibrant economy, democratic politics and governance capacities is a real example for the Middle East," Fadi Hakura, country director for Turkey, told the Anadou Agency.
Hakura, however, said the Turkish example could not be easily copied by Arab countries.
"Turkey's democratic traditions, governance structures and wealth-creating economy took more than 80 years to develop. So, Arab countries need a long time of reform and restructuring to attain a similar level of political and economic sophistication in Turkey," he said.
