Turkey's METU ranked among top 500 universities in the world
ANKARA (A.A)- The Middle East Technical University or METU was named among the top 500 universities in the world.
METU was placed 321st out some 19 thousand on the list of Webometrics Ranking of World Universities by the Spain-based Cybermetrics Laboratories -- a research group attached to the Spanish Education Ministry.
The Ankara-based METU ranked 123rd among the universities in Europe and 35th among the universities in Asia.
No other Turkish universities were cited on the this year's list.
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, also known as Ranking Web of World Universities, is ranking system for the world's universities based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the Web contents (number of web pages and files) and the visibility and impact of these web publications according to the number of external inlinks (site citations) they received.
The aim of the Ranking is to improve the presence of the academic and research institutions on the Web and to promote the open access publication of scientific results. The ranking started in 2004 and is updated every January and July.
