Talabani to a Congressional delegation: Iraq important for peace, democracy

Baghdad (NINA) – President Jalal Talabani asserted, “Iraq is an important Middle East country and important for peace and democracy.”



A statement issued by the President’s Office quoted Talabani saying during his meeting with a US Congressional delegation saying, “Iraq can become an example for democracy in the Middle East with a government of national partnership that encourages optimism of defeating terrorism.”



He added, “The important thing is the relations and cooperation between Iraq and the United States and means to consolidate cooperation after American forces’ withdrawal for the good of people of both countries.”



For their part, members of Congressional delegation asserted that they are looking toward establishing a long term relations between both countries and people.
