US has to change hostile approach against Iran: Journalist

Islamabad, Feb 1, IRNA – A Pakistani journalist on Tuesday called on the US to amend its hostile policy towards Iran, adding that Iran must be allowed to develop its peaceful nuclear program without any pressure.
Talking to IRNA, President of National Press Club Afzal Butt said that Iran is a sovereign state and has inalienable right to pursue a nuclear program.

The journalist endorsed the statement of Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Ahani saying Iran's nuclear program is entirely aimed at peaceful applications.

“The Islamic Republic fulfills its duties within the framework of the NPT”, said the Iranian official. The comments came after two days of multifaceted talks between Iran and the six major world powers.

He also emphasized that Iran's nuclear program is entirely aimed at peaceful applications, saying, “Iran will go ahead with its nuclear activities which are the country's right.”

Afzal Butt expressing his views said that actual problem is that US is not accepting Iran’s right to peaceful nuclear technology. “They cannot see a Muslim state following independent policy and not paying any attention to American threats”, he noted.

“They must stop adopting dual standards against Iran…US knows that Iran is not developing weapon oriented nuclear program”, he asked.

The US and its allies, who accuse Iran of developing a military nuclear program, have used this pretext to pressure the UN Security Council to impose a fourth round of sanctions against Iran's financial and military sectors in June.

Iranian officials have repeatedly denied the charges, arguing that as a signatory to the NPT and a member of the IAEA, Tehran has a right to peaceful nuclear technology.

“So far there is no evidence available against peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program”, said Afzal Butt. He added that Western countries want Iran to rollback its nuclear program.

“I fully support Iran’s nuclear program”, said the journalist.

Afzal Butt strongly believed that Iran will not yield to any external pressure against its nuclear capability and Iranian leadership is mentally prepared to respond any kind of military adventure against them.

Criticizing sanctions against Iran he said that any conspiracy against the Islamic Republic will fail.

The journalist viewed that Iran is a major power of the region and sanctions cannot stop Iran from achieving its goals. “Iran is a strong state and cannot be pressurized by such coward acts”, he added.

Representatives from Iran and the P5+1 -- Britain, China, France, Russia and the US plus Germany -- wrapped up their latest round of comprehensive talks in the Turkish city of Istanbul on January 22.
