India concerned at developments in Egypt

New Delhi, Jan 31, IRNA – India on Sunday expressed concern at developments in Egypt and hoped for peaceful resolution of the conflict.

'We are closely following with concern, the developments in Egypt. India has traditionally enjoyed close and friendly relations. We hope for an early and peaceful resolution of the situation without further violence and loss of lives,' said the statement issued by the External Affairs Ministry in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Government has made arrangements for a special Air India flight to carry 300 Indians from Cairo, which has been rocked by violent protests for the past few days to India.

The arrangement for the special flight was made at the request of the Indian community in Egypt in view of the prevailing situation there, said the statement.

All Indians in Egypt are safe. There are 3600 Indians in Egypt and out of those 2200 live in Cairo.

India embassy has set up 24 hrs hotline to assist Indians for help.

According to media reports, Egypt was in the grip of people’s uprising against President Hosni Mubarak's 30-year rule that has claimed at least 150 lives in six days
