Fury's Payne to miss rest of season
North Queensland's Chris Payne has played his last game for the A-League club with the striker to undergo surgery next week.
The former Sydney FC player will have damage to a torn right lateral meniscus repaired after sustaining the injury during the club's 3-0 loss to Melbourne Victory on Wednesday.
With Payne expected to now be out for at least six weeks, he will miss the remainder of the A-League campaign.
The 20-year-old has agreed a deal to join Newcastle in the 2011-12 season and Fury operations manager Robbie Middleby said the way the youngster's time in Townsville had come to an end was disappointing.
"It's an unfortunate end to the season for Chris and also for Fury fans looking forward to seeing him play next Saturday against Brisbane Roar," Middleby said.
"He has a bright future and we wish him all the best with his endeavours."
