Chinese Embassy in Tokyo Begins Monthly Press Conference
Tokyo, Jan. 26 (Jiji Press)--The Chinese embassy in Tokyo held the first of a monthly press conference Wednesday in an effort to strengthen Beijing's public relations capability.
The move comes as China and Japan mark the 40th anniversary of normalized relations next year.
The first conference drew some 40 Japanese and Chinese journalists.
An embassy spokesman told the meeting that bilateral ties have been affected by a collision involving a Chinese trawler and two Japanese patrol ships near disputed islands in the East China Sea last September.
But the official, a counselor at the embassy, said an improvement in relations was made with a summit meeting of the two countries' leaders in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, in November.
