S.LAMBAA AT WHO EXECUTIVE BOARD SESSION
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The 128th World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board session started January 17 in Geneva, Switzerland.
A procedure was approved and then Dr. Margaret Chan, Director-General of the WHO, gave a report.
Taking part in the session Health Minister of Mongolia S.Lambaa held an official meeting with Dr. Chan to discuss the Mongolia-WHO cooperation's directions and strategic goals. S.Lambaa has pointed out that Mongolia's government highly speaks contribution of the WHO to development of the health sector of Mongolia, adding that effort will be made to ensure a realization of the middle-term strategic document for the years 2010-2015.
This year's session has discussed documents concerning pandemic influenza preparedness, sharing of influenza viruses and access to vaccines and other benefits; implementation of the International Health Regulations (2005); realization of the Health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs); the WHO's role in the follow-up to the high-level plenary meeting of the sixty-fifth session of the UN General Assembly on the review of the MDGs; prevention and control of non-communicable diseases; and strategic projects combating against HIV/AIDS.
The gathered are to discuss a future of financing of the WHO Program and budget matters.
The Executive Board comprises 34 individuals technically qualified in the field of health, each one designated by a Member State elected to do so by the World Health Assembly. Member-States are elected for three-year terms. Mongolia was elected as a member of the Executive Board representing the western Asia-Pacific region, according to a decision of the 63rd session of the WHO held May of 2010.
