Burmese soldiers arrest Thai villagers

TAK, Jan 19 (TNA) - Eight Thai villagers living near the Thai-Burmese border were arrested by Burmese soldiers on Wednesday (Jan 19) while they were fishing and collecting corn on the Burmese soil. Local authorities are approaching for their release.

The eight people are dwellers in Ork Hoo village of Tambon Valley locality in Phop Phra district of Thailand's northern Tak province.

The people were arrested by Burmese soldiers in Huay Pho Mu Bor village in Burmese territory and were taken to the 3rd Strategic Command of Burma. Local Thai authorities and village leaders are approaching Burmese soldiers to lobby for the release of the eight people but the attempts are not promising because the Burmese soldiers arrived from other areas to battle with troops of the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA).

Thai security authorities said that three of the arrested people had ID cards and the other five were waiting for their cards. The authorities expect the people to be released later in the day. (TNA)
