Mush`s successor to remove "handcuffs" on Par: Zardari
Islamabad, Aug 13 (PTI) President Pervez Musharraf's days in office are numbered and a new head of state elected in consultation with members of the ruling coalition will ensure there are no "handcuffs" on the parliament, P.P.P. co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said.
Zardari also said that the Pakistani Army along with spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence are not involved in political affairs of the country and would not interfere in politics in the future as well.
Musharraf is "a guest for a few days" and the new president will be elected after consultations within the ruling coalition, Zardari said in an interview with Geo News channel.
"As soon as the new President takes oath, he will abolish Article 58(2b) of the constitution," he said, referring to the constitutional article that empowers the President to dissolve the parliament.
Once Musharraf is removed, there will be "no handcuffs" on the government and "whatever parliament decides will be the voice of the people", he pointed out.
The P.P.P. chief said Musharraf "has no understanding of
politics because he has not been involved in politics" and the former military ruler also does not know the ground realities.
Musharraf "considers himself a master tactician but that (is in matters) of war" and he is "not a tactician of politics," Zardari added.
On the role of the army and ISI, he said the two organisations are working along professional lines and are not involved in any kind of political activity.
"The ISI is not involved in politics and (army chief) Gen (Ashfaq Parvez) Kayani has made it clear when he said he was recalling all serving officers from civilian posts.
