BEIJING, January 18 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian M/S Maxim Ammosov,
arrested in China in December 2010, may be freed on Tuesday, Itar-Tass
learnt from head of the consular section at the Russian embassy in China
Leonid Ignatenko.
"A court will hold hearings today on the case of the motor ship's
arrest," Ignatenko said. "We expect that the court will decide on
releasing the vessel from the arrest." The Russian diplomat emphasised
that a dispute between economic entities was the only reason for detaining
the ship. He noted, "no arbitrary actions were taken, and decision was
made on a legitimate basis".
Chinese authorities arrested the Maxim Ammosov on December 23 for
debts of the ship's owner to other companies, amounting to 130,000 US
dollars. There are 17 crewmembers aboard the ship.
