BEST GROUPS PROTECT NATURE
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ “The environmentally-friendly best group of 2010" has been selected in Uvs aimag by the “Herders' contribution to conservation of biodiversity in the Altai Sayan Mountains in Mongolia” project that is implemented by the Ministry of environment and financed by the UNDP in Mongolia.
The participants of the action had set up groups to implement natural resources management supported by the locality peope, put a joint control, create an environment for initiatives, provide a human development.
A first place winner has become a “Tsakhir” group, Bokhmoron soum. It has been awarded 450 thousand togrog and digital camera.
The groups have been active in the protection of nature working together with NGOs, banks and financial businesses. Some significant results are also achieved in a cooperation with projects such as Mercy corps, WWF, stock index insurance, stable livelihood and others. It is estimated that animals and forest-related law breaches went down greatly on the areas that have been protected by the groups.
