UN prosecutor submits secret Hariri indictment

Berlin, Jan 18, IRNA - Prosecutor of Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) has submitted a 'confidential indictment' linked to his investigation into 2005 killing of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri, court officials in The Hague said Monday.

Daniel Bellemare sent the indictment which does not reveal who is being charged, to pre-trial judge Daniel Fransen.

The judge is to review the indictment and then consult with the appeals chamber before finalizing the charges, a process that’s likely to take between six to 10 weeks, according to STL officials.

Critics of the western-backed STL have said it is part of a US-Israeli conspiracy aimed at weakening Lebanon's Islamic resistance Hezbollah./end
