UAE PLANS ON BUILDING 68 DAMS IN FIVE YEARS
DUBAI, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- In efforts to meet its increasing water
requirements, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to build 68 dams in the next five years.
The Gulf state is also working on a draft law incorporating guidelines and regulations to safeguard its water resources and meet future demand for water, said Deputy Water and Soil Affairs Minister Dr Mohammed Mustafa Al Mulla.
Khaleej Times quoted him as saying that the UAE already had 140 dams and
additional dams would ensure the maximum usage of water resources.
According to the daily, he ruled out the chances of UAE experiencing water
shortage due to rapid development and increasing population.
The strategy, he said, will be to use desalinated water only for domestic
purpose and treated waste water for the industrial and agricultural sectors.
