Iran expects G5+1 to act on agreements for fruitful Istanbul meet

Tehran, Jan 16, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Saturday if the Group 5+1 acts within the framework of the agreements with Iran, Istanbul negotiations (January 21-22) will surely bear fruitful results.

Mehmanparast made the remark on the sidelines of the first expert meeting on “Role of media in promoting interaction with Iranians living abroad” which started in Tehran this morning.

“If Istanbul talks are continuation of negotiations for finding common grounds, they can have favorable results. Of course, it depends on the behavior of Group 5+1 and European Union foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton,” he added.

He emphasized that if the Group 5+1 acts within the framework of agreements, Istanbul negotiations can be useful.

On the issue of Iranian ships intercepted in Singapore, Mehmanparast said that the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) is seriously following up this matter.

He, however, pointed out that some of the problems were related to debts of these ships that caused problem in the banking system.

“They want to create problems for the Islamic Republic of Iran that will be thwarted with the vigilance of the respective officials,” Mehmanparast said./end
