ASHGABAT, January 15 (Itar-Tass) -- President Gurbanguly
Berdymukhamedov of Turkmenistan and President of the European Commission
Jose Manuel Barroso will discuss here on Saturday the state and prospect
of partnership, including in the energy sphere.
The aim of Barroso's visit to Turkmenistan, as the press service of
the government of the republic notes, is to become a new step to intensify
the dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union. It will open new
possibilities for effective interaction in the context of the projects and
programmes which are operating already and those promising projects and
programmes which are being drafted now.
The energy strategy of Turkmenistan is aimed at solving problems of
global ensuring of energy security, including the European one," a report
of the press service notes without mentioning the project Nabucco or
Southern Corridor on which a joint declaration of the European Union and
Azerbaijan was signed in Baku on Friday.
On the eve of Barroso's visit, the president of Turkmenistan said
about the European direction in the strategy of diversifying gas flows
which intensified this year. "Launching the gas pipeline
Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China (December 2009) and another gas
pipeline Turkmenistan-Iran (January 2010), laying the foundation of
another major international project of building a gas pipeline
Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India, we are ready today to provide
European states with gas as well," Berdymukhamedov said at a meeting of
the government on January 10. In the same context, he gave instructions to
"build gas liquefying plants since its transportation doesn't need laying
different pipelines, and it is easier to export it in different
directions."
Earlier, in November 2009, Berdymukhamedov said speaking at the summit
of the Caspian states about plans to build a Trans-Caspian gas pipeline
relying on agreements of interested costal states.
Apart from economic cooperation, within the framework of Friday's
talks, Berdymukhamedov and Barroso will also discuss urgent issues of
international politics of mutual interest.
During the visit to Turkmenistan, the president of the European
Commission will visit the main national museum of the country and the
equestrian sport complex near Ashgabat.
