Phuket organises retro-extravagances for 2011 Chinese New Year

BANGKOK, Jan 15 (TNA) - Thailand’s renowned southern resort Phuket Province has announced that it will highlight this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations at its historical “Old Phuket Town” to promote local tourism and conserve the century-worth Sino-Portuguese spot--which has been globally proclaimed for its traditional architectural value.

Somjai Suwansupana, Phuket's Muang Municipality Mayor, said the “Old Phuket Town” three-night event, starting from February 8, will feature an extravaganza of the island's historic heritage--along with Chinese arts and cultural shows, processions, booths of a variety of food products and other activities held at a “walking street” in the Old Town.

The mayor revealed that more extravagant activities and events will also be organised on February 10, the last day of this year's Lunar Festival celebrations in the Thai Andaman resort haven. (TNA)
