China imports palm oil from Thailand for Chinese New Year celebrations

BANGKOK, Jan 15 (TNA) - China has ordered considerable palm oil from Thailand to prepare for the forthcoming Chinese New Year festival early next month, and to avoid shortages and a price hike of the product.

Customs officials in Chiang Saen District of Thailand's northern Chiang Rai Province, said on Saturday (Jan 15) that the excessive orders from China have turned the Chiang Saen Port to be a very hectic trading site, as hundreds of workers are loading a number of 20-liter containers of palm oil from ten-wheeled trucks on to Chinese cargo boats destined for Guan Lei Port in southern China.

Chinese consumers use palm oil to cook food during their Chinese New Year celebrations and even for their daily food preparations. (TNA)
