Two US men charged for forced labour of Thais

BANGKOK, Jan 15 (TNA) - Two US men have been charged with conspiring to force 400 Thai nationals to work for little or no pay on farms in Hawaii and elsewhere in the United States.

A federal grand jury in Honolulu indicted on Friday (Jan 14) that the two Los Angeles men, Joseph Knoller and Bruce Schwartz, along with six other co-defendants originally charged in September last year, conspired with Thai labor recruiters to carry out the crime--which began with false promises of lucrative jobs.

US Prosecutors alleged that approximately 400 Thai nationals were lured by the defendants to the United States from Thailand from 2001 through 2007 to work as labourers. The defendants include two Thais and an Israeli national of the Los Angeles-based company Global Horizons Manpower. (TNA)
