Thailand advised to follow up progress on AEC

BANGKOK, Jan 15 (TNA) - The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has suggested that Thailand set up a special panel to follow up progress on the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015 and publicise its impacts for public reference.
UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi aired the suggestion at a discussion in Bangkok on Friday on the readiness of the Thai private sector toward the ASEAN Economic Community--during which issues related to global markets and the Thai economy were also raised.
The UNCTAD secretary-general, who is a former Thai deputy prime minister, advised that the special committee set up by the Thai government should consist of representatives from public and private agencies.
According to the UNCTAD chief, the special panel should be made permanent despite changes of the Thai government and its tasks should be a national agenda.
Supachai said that the Thai special committee should disseminate its information for public reference thorough the Public-Private Partnership Committee and the Council of the Thai Economic Ministers. (TNA)
