Thai PM:Government helps all Thai detainees in Phnom Penh impartially

BANGKOK, Jan 14 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva says that his government has sought bail for all seven Thai detainees in Phnom Penh without any discrimination.

The Democrat premier acknowledged that his administration has studied the Cambodian court's judgments to find ways to seek the release on bail for the remaining five Thai nationals. Two of the seven Thai detainees, including a Bangkok MP of the Thailand's ruling Democrat Party, Panich Vikitsreth, and Naruemol Jitwaratana, were granted bail by the Cambodian Court yesterday (Jan 13).

Meanwhile, Thai Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya said that the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh and its lawyers are trying to seek release on bail for the remaining Thai detainees as soon as possible and he hopes the Cambodian court will finally approve the bail. Kasit insisted on continued efforts by authorities concerned to help the Thai nationals, saying that he will meet his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong, who is also Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, during the forthcoming ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Indonesia scheduled for January 15-17, and that discussions on the Thai case will be included in bilateral talks. In the meantime, Panich and Naruemol and their visiting relatives are staying at the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh. (TNA)
