PYONGYANG, January 12 (Itar-Tass) - Political activists from North
Korea urge the South Korean authorities to welcome Pyongyang's offer to
launch a peaceful dialogue shortly and without any preliminary conditions.
This offer was approved at a session of the North Korean government,
political parties and organisations of the country, held in Pyongyang on
January 5. North Korea's initiative "is timely and correct, taking into
consideration a dangerous situation that has emerged on the Korean
peninsula," Deputy Prime Minister of North Korea Kang Nung Su told
reporters.
According to him, if the two countries "make a wrong choice, the
Korean nation may be involved in a nuclear conflict instead of
reunification of the Fatherland". He also stressed that the development of
relations between North Korea and South Korea depends on South Korea,
"which must abandon the policy of confrontation towards the Democratic
People's Republic of Korea, and must not hinder exchanges and contacts".
In case of a further aggravation of relations between the two
countries, "it is the Korean nation that will in the first place become
the victim of confrontation, while others will benefit from that
conflict," Minister of Metal Industry Kim Thae Bong said.
However, if the two Koreas pool efforts and use the available in the
region resources efficiently, "a new state will emerge - powerful,
prosperous and full of self-respect," he added.
