Thai PM applies Buddhist virtues for national administration

BANGKOK, Jan 12 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said on Wednesday (Jan 12) that he has applied Buddhist principles of patience, perseverance and honesty as a major navigator to drive the nation towards peace, reconciliation and sustainable development, urging Thai federal units and the public to follow the same principles.
The Thai premier acknowledged that every member of his Cabinet has been particularly called on to remain calm under pressure based on the Buddhist virtues while working for public interest and transparency.
Abhisit insisted that, based on the moral conduct, his government was able to steer the country out of previous political standoff, saying that Thai people's following the Buddhist principles will also make Thailand become a coherent society, stressing on the Kingdom's globally-recognized status as a world centre for Buddhism studies.
The Thai leader made the remarks when presiding over a ceremony to open an event to commemorate a highly-respected Thai Buddhist monk, Chaokhun Phrapromkhunaporn (P.A. Payutto), on the occasion of his 72nd birthday at Thammasat University's Pra Chan campus, in Bangkok. (TNA)
