Judicial inquiry against two Thai detainees in Phnom Penh completed

BANGKOK, Jan 12 (TNA) - A Cambodian court has completed its hearing of two out of seven Thai detainees in Phnom Penh--who were additionally charged with spying in a Cambodian military zone, apart from allegedly trespassing on the Cambodian territory as mainly charged against all the seven Thai nationals.

Thai Foreign Ministry Spokesman Thani Thongphakdee said that the two Thai detainees, including Veera Somkwamkid, a leading activist of the Thai Patriots Network aligned with the yellow-shirt People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), and his secretary Ratree Pipatanapaiboon, were taken back to the Prey Sor Prison in the Cambodian capital after the completion of the judicial inquiry earlier on Wednesday (Jan 12).

All the seven Thai nationals testified before the Cambodian Court last week against the charge of illegal entry. They told the Phnom Penh court that they entered into the Cambodian territory by accident.

The Cambodian court has not yet set the date for delivering its verdicts against the seven Thai people--who were arrested in an area along the Thai-Cambodian border by Cambodian soldiers on December 29. (TNA)
