Thai DPM insists Thai-Cambodian relations remain intact

BANGKOK, Jan 12 (TNA) - Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban insisted on Wednesday (Jan 12) that Thai-Cambodian relations have remained good--despite the ongoing detention of seven Thai nationals arrested for allegedly trespassing on the Cambodian territory.
Suthep, who overseas national security, declined to give an update on the case of the seven Thai people, saying that the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been officially in charge of releasing updated developments on the case to the public.
The Democrat deputy premier acknowledged, however, that he believes that progress on the case of the seven Thai detainees should be seen within this week, insisting that international relations must be protected and good relations should be maintained.
The deputy prime minister warned the Thai public not to consider Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen as being aggressive against Thailand. Hun Sen announced on Monday that no one, even former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and the United Nations, could help the seven Thai detainees in Phnom Penh, as only the Cambodian court has the right and authority to decide on their fates.
