Ashton 'deeply saddened' by Iran Air plane crash
Berlin, Jan 11, IRNA - European Union's foreign affairs supremo Catherine Ashton expressed her 'sincere condolences' to Iran Monday in aftermath of tragic Iran Air plane crash that killed over 70 people, German Press Agency dpa reported Wednesday.
'I was deeply saddened to hear about the tragic plane crash in your country on Sunday 9 January and the loss of life and injuries that it brought,' Ashton wrote to Iran's acting Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi.
'Please accept my sincere condolences. My thoughts and sympathy go out to the families and friends of the victims of this terrible incident,' Ashton went on to say in the letter.
The plane crash occurred Sunday night near the northwestern Iranian city of Orumieh.
