Two children die in Qld house fire
(AAP) A young brother and sister have died in a house fire in Rockhampton but another child, their mother and grandmother escaped the blaze.
Authorities are investigating what caused the fire in the weatherboard house in
Arthur Street, Depot Hill, about 2.30pm (AEST) Tuesday. It was not thought to be
suspicious.
"There was a little boy who was three years old and a small girl who was about one
and a half," a police spokesman told reporters.
"It's an absolute tragedy, any loss of life is, particularly children, can devastate
a small community."
The women were taken to hospital and treated for minor burns.
All five were at home when the fire broke out. The mother and grandmother were able
to rescue one child, but could not reach the other two in time.
"Two women and another child managed to escape the house before it was fully
engulfed in flames, and preliminary investigations do suggest that there are no
suspicious circumstances," police spokesman Matthew Rigby said earlier.
