Thai PM to visit deep South

BANGKOK, Jan 10 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will visit the deep South on January 17 to inspect updated developments in the troubled southernmost region before deciding whether his government should lift the state of emergency in the violence-plagued region.

Thai Deputy Interior Minister Thaworn Senneam said on Monday (Jan 10) that the prime minister will then consider whether it is the right time for his government to revoke the emergency decree in the far South, replacing it with the Internal Security Act (ISA).

Thaworn said that the Democrat premier will also preside a ceremony in Pattani Province during his forthcoming trip to the restive South to spend a 512-million-baht state budget for developing nearly 2,300 villages in the Thai southern border region. (TNA)
