Iran works toward peace, stability in region

Tehran, Jan 10, IRNA – Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said Iran has always worked towards peace and stability in the region.
Making the remarks in a meeting with Sultan Qaboos of Oman, he referred to the last year's visit of the sultan to Tehran and the agreements reached by the two countries including a security pact during the visit.
Stressing that Iran’s policy has been to develop and expand ties with its neighbors specially those in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, he described as very efficient the policies taken by the Omani ruler in improving stability and peace in the region.
The minister also underlined the need for promotion of security cooperation between Tehran and Muscat.
He also asked the sultan to pardon 101 Iranians presently jailed in Oman.
Sultan Qaboos, too, said security and economic cooperation between the two countries was to the benefit of the whole region and said both countries should work to further expand cooperation./end
