Iran-Oman call for expansion of economic, security co-op

Tehran, Jan 10, IRNA – Iran's Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar conferred on Sunday with his Omani counterpart Sayyid Saud bin Ibrahim al-Busaidi on expansion of mutual economic and security cooperation.

Iran and Oman share many historical, cultural and religious commonalities, said Mohammad-Najjar, currently on an official visit to Muscat, adding that the two sides' high ranking officials are determined to fully broaden bilateral relations and cooperation.

There exists ample untapped economic potentials in both countries which should be further explored, Najjar said.

Iran and Oman can implement joint projects to help expand economic and security cooperation, ink security pact concerning land and sea borders, launch anti-drug campaign, fight against terrorism, and human trafficking as well as organized crimes.

The Islamic Republic of Iran can be a suitable route for transit of goods from Persian Gulf littoral states to Central Asia as grounds for such a grave task is well prepared, said Najjar.

Officials of both countries are ready to discuss ways of increasing volume of trade exchanges between their private sectors and facilitate exchange of visits between the two sides' nationals, he underlined.

The Omani minister, for his part, said that Najjar's visit would help strengthen relations between the two countries and the Omani government is determined to broaden bilateral relations.

Iran is a big country with huge natural resources, capable human resources and talented managers which plays a vital role to this effect, said the Omani minister.

Oman’s policy is based on expansion of cooperation with the countries of the region mainly Iran, he pointed out.

He also called for exchange of views and visits between the two sides governors general to expedite implementation of agreements signed by the two countries./end
