Iran-Oman playing key role in safe transfer of energy via PG

Tehran, Jan 10, IRNA – Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said Sunday that Iran and Oman are playing a key role in securing the safe transfer of energy via the Persian Gulf.

Mohammad-Najjar made the remarks prior to his departure for the Omani capital, Muscat, where he is to discuss major bilateral, regional and international issues with senior officials of the country.

During his two-day visit to Oman, Mohammad-Najjar is to hold separate meetings with Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al-Said and his Omani counterpart.

He is to exchange views on promotion of bilateral cooperation on mutual security, military and shipping activities.

Iran and Oman were located in the two sides of the Hormuz Straight which is the passage for over 60 percent of the world's seaborne energy shipments, Mohammad-Najjar said.

Noting that Tehran and Muscat enjoyed many common points in religious, social, economic and cultural fields, he added the two capitals were keen to promote all-out bilateral cooperation to its highest level.

Referring to Iran's strategic role in the region, he also said that Iran could bridge the gap between the Central Asian and Persian Gulf states in the field of transit of goods./end
