Mary`s Tas family, premier welcome twins

The Tasmanian sister of Princess Mary says she is delighted with the arrival of
Denmark's royal twins.
The Hobart-born Crown Princess gave birth to a boy and girl in a Copenhagen hospital
on Saturday.
Her father John Donaldson was in Denmark for the birth, Mary's sister Jane Stephens
told AAP.
"The family is delighted for Frederik and Mary," she said.
"We are very pleased that the twins are healthy and happy and that all three of them
have come through well."
The family say they will eagerly await news of the baby's names, which they expect
to hear on the day of their christening.
They are unaware of any plans by the royal family to visit Tasmania.
Tasmanian Premier David Bartlett says he hopes the royals will bring the twins to
the Apple Isle.
"This is a wonderful event for the royal couple, for Denmark, and for Princess Mary
and Prince Frederik's family and friends here in Tasmania," Mr Bartlett said in a
statement on Sunday.
"On behalf of all Tasmanians, I congratulate the royal couple on these very welcome
additions to their family.
"Despite their busy schedules, the royal couple have always made time to regularly
visit their relatives and friends here and I look forward to the growing family
visiting again."
The boy, weighing 2674 grams and measuring 47cm, was born at 10.30am on Saturday
Copenhagen time (8.30pm Saturday AEDT) and the girl just under half an hour later.
She weighed 2554 grams and measured 46cm.
The royal couple already have two children, Prince Christian, five, and Princess
Isabella, three.
Mr Bartlett said the government would consider appropriate gifts for the twins on
behalf of the people of Tasmania over the next couple of weeks.
"Here they will also always be welcomed as honorary Tasmanians and I am sure we will
all take great interest and delight in watching them grow and prosper," he said.
Prince Frederik announced the births to awaiting media on Saturday.
"It's a happy occasion to announce that Crown Princess Mary has given birth to
perfectly healthy babies," he said.
"A boy and then a girl right after."
