Iranian envoy: Palestine, key issue in Middle East

Ankara, Jan 9, IRNA – Iran's Ambassador to Turkey said that Palestine is still the most important issue in the Middle East.

Bahman Hosseinpour said that the old colonial power of Britain left this injury in the Middle East and the region is still suffering from the wound.

He made the remarks in a gathering of student members of Islamic Associations Union of Iranian students in Europe in Istanbul on Saturday.

Concerning political developments in the region, the ambassador said that our region can still affect world developments adding that the Middle East has always been an effective region in the world and had played a role as a connecting bridge between east and west.

He underlined that the Middle East is still a center of politico-economic developments in the world and added that Palestine is still the most important issue in the ME.

In spite of six decades of efforts and fight to restore their rights, the Palestinians have not yet been able to achieve their goal.

West's conspiracies and lack of consensus among Islamic countries are the most important causes for the process, but the Palestinian Intefadha and resistance will put the Zionist occupiers in the worst historical situation, he continued.

Hosseinpour, by referring to Iran-Turkey relations, said that expansion of ties in different fields of politics, economy, security, parliament, and culture are among important priorities of Iran foreign policy.

Currently, the trade exchange level between the two countries is around 10 billion dollars, which will reach 30 billion dollars in the next four years, said the envoy.

He added that Iran and Turkey are the most important countries of the Middle East region and expansion of cooperation between them will provide bilateral interests and peace, stability and prosperity for the region, too.
