Larijani: Iran-Syria help restore regional stability, tranquility

Tehran, Jan 9, IRNA - Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said Saturday that Iran and Syria can jointly cooperate to help restore tranquility and stability to the Middle East region.
Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with his Syrian counterpart Mahmoud al-Abrash in Tehran on Saturday.
According to the Information and Press Bureau of Majlis, Larijani said that Iran and Syria are now regarded as two pillars of resistance in the region.
Referring to recent developments in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq, he said resistance and solidarity of nations in the region have thwarted the plots hatched by the enemies of Muslim world in the region.
Expressing satisfaction with the expansion of relations between both countries, Larijani said the two sides should make use of existing potentials and capabilities to expand current level of relations mainly in the economic sector.
Both sides should also further exchange views at regional and international fora and organizations mainly in Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Committee and Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), Larijani said.
The Syrian parliament speaker, for his part, said that Iran plays a leading role in regional developments and underlined that the Zionist regime is the root-cause of instability in the region.
The Zionist regime, as the common enemy of all world Muslims, pursues warmongering policies in the region, he said.
He also lauded Iran’s significant role in dealing with regional developments and those of Palestine in particular and appreciated the country’s role in establishment of regional institutions.
The two sides also discussed ways of upholding level of mutual cooperation in various sectors.
The issue of Palestine is the most important issue for world Muslims, the two officials underlined and called for expansion of close cooperation to help oppressed Palestinian people vindicate their legitimate rights./end
